Duncan is currently the UK ESRC’s Knowledge Leader on Devolution and City Deals and has had a career as an applied economist in both academia and government focussing on housing, infrastructure, neighbourhoods, cities and regions. He presently holds Chairs as Professor of Public Policy at the University of Glasgow and of Strategic Urban Management and Finance at the University of St Andrews as well as a visiting Chair at RMIT (Melbourne). He has previously held visiting chairs in the Wharton Business School (University of Pennsylvania) and in the Department of Economics at the University of California at Berkeley.

Within government, Duncan was special Adviser to the First Ministers of Scotland from 1999-2003 then spent the period 2004-2009 working first in Australia, as a Chief Economist and Deputy Secretary for Policy and Strategy in the Government of Victoria, and then Canada, as Chief Economist in the Federal Department for Infrastructure and Cities. He has acted as an Adviser to the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada (2004-6) and was the lead author of the Harcourt Report on Canada’s Cities and Communities and then advised the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet in New Zealand (2008, 2009) and served on the Australian Prime Minister’s Expert Advisory Panel on the Future Planning of Australian Cities (2010-12). He was Economic Adviser to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (1989 to 2004) and the Urban Affairs Group at OECD from 1981-96. He has also advised the World Bank and the EU. Duncan now lives in Kingsburg, Nova Scotia and Edinburgh, Scotland.

Cathy Carmody is a Social Activist, Conscious Aging Visionary, Thought Leader and published author, who has been researching the field of aging for 21+ years. Offering intensive workshops and promoting awareness about the emerging ‘New Life Stage’ that is changing everything we thought we knew about growing older, Cathy is also involved as the creator of a television documentary and series that will feature individuals from Canada and around the world, sharing their stories about building a meaningful and purposeful life after 55/60. Titled Fearless, it will explore how individuals find the courage to create a new life different from the old, within an ageist society. Cathy has a history of advisory & executive positions in Provincial & Federal governments, including advising on the repatriation of the Canadian Constitution, and representing Canada at international conferences in Europe & the US. She was at the forefront of the women’s movement in Canada, and has, over the past 20 years, created 2 consulting companies focused on leadership development. Cathy believes she is an example of someone growing older consciously, unwilling to accept the status quo thinking about aging. www.cathycarmody.com
